Q.What happens after I make an appointment?
A. Answer: You will have an initial visit scheduled for two separate days. Each visit will last between 45 minutes and one hour.
The first day is for obtaining a number of medical tests. We suggest that these tests be done while you are fasting. You will be asked not to eat or drink anything but water for six to eight hours before the appointment. Please also wear a two-piece outfit on both days, and do not wear an underwire bra or apply any body lotions, oils, or sprays as these products could alter results.
The following tests will be performed:
- Body composition – measures your muscle lean to fat ratio
At the end of the first appointment, a second visit will be scheduled at least 24 hours after the first visit to allow time for the lab results to be processed.
During the second visit you will be seen by a licensed medical provider for a brief history review and physical with discussion of any abnormal results from the lab tests.
Q. Why do I need to come by myself?
A. We believe the best care for our particular medical specialty can be given when the physician and the patient interact on a one-on-one basis. Having other people – children, spouses, parents, friends, etc. – in the room is a distraction to the patient and the provider alike. Therefore, we prefer that you not bring other people to the lab or examination room with you.
Q. Do you take or file insurance?
A. No, we do not take or file insurance. Most insurance companies do not cover treatment for obesity. We can, however, give patients the necessary information to file their own claims.
Q. How much does this initial visit cost?
A. The new patient visit is currently $210 which covers both days. We ask that this fee be paid at your first visit with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, cash, check or money order.
Q. Can we get a discount if I have a friend or family member who also wants to start the program with me?
A. We don’t normally give discounts. But if you become a patient and refer someone, you receive $25 off your next visit.
Q. I’ve been to the Steelman Clinic before. Do I have to restart the program with two separate visits again?
A. If you have been seen by the clinic within the last three years, you do not have to have two separate visits. At your appointment, you will have lab work and EKG done and then see a provider. You will receive medication on that visit.
Q. It has been more than one year but less than three years since I last visited the clinic. What is the cost and what do I need to do to start again?
A. The cost is $110 for your Annual Lab and $110 as a base cost for the visit and medications.
